Oyster Pinctada maxima is the largest oyster capable of creating pearl jewelry quality. The size of the shell of the bivalve mollusk Pinctada maxima can reach 30 cm in diameter.
The main habitats of this mollusk are the tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans between the southern coast of South-East Asia and the Northern coast of Australia. The most important geographical regions of cultivation to date are Australia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan.
